The collapse of Wayne Lanes

Wayne Lanes was Waynesboro, Virginia's only bowling alley and it had been operating at 208 North Charlotte Avenue since 1958.

The roof of the building collapsed under the weight of the snow from winter storm Jonas on Saturday night, January 23, 2016 at 7:51 PM.

Demolition of the ruins of the bowling alley happened soon after the collapse, but not before a crew from the cable TV show "Salvage Dawgs" visited to scavenge anything of value from the place. Wayne Lanes owner, Shawn Lavender, was happy that some useful items were able to be salvaged.

After the demolition, the vacant lot sat empty for years, until Wells Enterprises Construction began developing a set of multi-family rental residential buildings on the site in March 2023. As of mid-August 2023, those buildings are nearing completion.
